The solid waste profession encompasses many areas of expertise such as engineering, geology, marketing, finance, etc. Students interested in working in the solid waste and recycling industry should apply. As a SWANA member, in good standing, you will act as the applicant's sponsor for their scholarship application.
TxSWANA Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors or graduate equivalent certified candidates who have been accepted for full or part-time enrollment in a junior college, a four-year college, or a university (any program) and any currently enrolled full-time college or university student who is pursuing a degree in environmental science, engineering, or other suitable major related to the field of solid waste management. Scholarship applicants must be the children or grandchildren of a SWANA Member in good standing or be a SWANA Student Member in good standing in the State of Texas as of the application due date.
Interested Applicants should submit:
- A cover letter containing:
- Your name and contact information
- A statement of interest
- Name of your current school/college/university attending and year/level
- College students should state their current field of study
- The name of your TxSWANA member sponsor or statement that applicant is a student member
- A copy of your recent transcript (high school or college)
- A copy of your college acceptance letter (high school applicants only)
- A cumulative list of extracurricular and community activities. Please include:
- Role Held
- Tenure
- A list of awards, achievements, and honors
- An essay
- One page
- Essay topic, "The Future of Solid Waste Management"
- 3 Letters of Recommendation
- 2 from teachers, professors, and/or your academic advisor
- 1 additional (your choice)
