About Us
TxSWANA, the Texas Lone Star Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), connects professionals who deliver essential waste and resource management services across Texas.
We support SWANA’s mission of advancing from solid waste management to resource management through education, safety, advocacy, and research. Our chapter brings that mission into focus within Texas’s distinct environmental and regulatory landscape, helping members apply broader industry knowledge to the communities and operations they serve.
Our Community
Our members represent public agencies, private companies, and organizations working across the waste and resource management industry. Their expertise spans waste reduction, collection, recycling, transfer, processing, composting, disposal, and resource recovery.
TxSWANA brings together professionals at every career stage, from frontline employees and equipment operators to technical specialists, managers, and executive leaders. By connecting people across disciplines and organizations, we create opportunities to exchange practical knowledge, solve common problems, and build lasting professional relationships.
What We Do
Education and Professional Development
We help members strengthen their technical knowledge, develop leadership skills, and stay informed about industry developments. Our Annual Conference, educational sessions, training opportunities, and connections to SWANA’s broader resources support continued learning and career growth.
Safety and Operational Excellence
Safety is central to our industry and our chapter’s work. Through the Safety Management and Resource Team (SMART) programming and shared operational experience, we encourage practices that protect workers and the communities they serve. Our annual Road-E-O celebrates the skill and professionalism of equipment operators while reinforcing safe equipment operation.
Networking and Collaboration
TxSWANA provides opportunities to connect with peers, learn from other organizations, and exchange ideas that improve everyday operations. Conferences, chapter meetings, facility tours, and Young Professionals activities help members build relationships across Texas and engage with the wider SWANA community.
Advocacy and Industry Awareness
We help members understand the issues shaping waste and resource management in Texas and support informed discussion with policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders. We also promote recognition of our industry’s essential contributions to public health, environmental protection, and the economy.

TxSWANA Tax Status
TxSWANA is a 501(c)3 Texas not-for-profit corporation. This qualifies donors to be eligible to deduct contributions to TxSWANA under the exempt purposes of IRS Code Section 501(c)3.
